Architecture and interior design: a tailor-made home in Latvia

A tailor-made project, where the outdoor environment and natural materials merge together in harmony with the interior furnishings, all warmed by the heat of the large fireplace in the living area, the beating heart of the entire home

This home, designed by the Outofbox team, was developed in Latvia, in Baltezers.

The majority of the furniture, an integral part of the project, was designed using relaxing and neutral colours. The result is a cosy and elegant space, where light-coloured wood, white furniture and grey cement are harmoniously combined.house-design-project_BaltezersThe essential and elegant contours of the building blend with the surrounding environment – a forest near the lake – and perfectly adapt to the irregular shape and slight landscape relief, creating an isolated paradise for the owners of the home.

Following the natural relief of the area on which it is built, the home in black wood is made up of four different levels, slightly offset one above the other.house-design-project_Baltezers-2The entrance leads to the south wing, which houses a spa with swimming pool and gym. On the north side, just a few steps below, we find the kitchen and main living area. Just above, on the upper floor is where the bedrooms and a small library are located.

While the façade recalls the layout and verticality of the nearby pine forest, the interior blends with the lakefront and colours of the sand and reeds. Even the materials chosen for the interior design are inspired by the surrounding environment and its colours: light-coloured wood and rough surfaces in cement.

The living area: large windows and a fireplace to illuminate and warm the space

The beating heart of the home is the living area. A spacious area characterised by large windows with panoramic outdoor views, wherein we find the structure housing the fireplace.

Perfectly blended into the home’s understated design, it helps illuminate and warm the space during the winter and on cold days. The fireplace with a burning fire and crackling wood becomes a meeting place for the entire family and its warmth takes the chill off evenings spent relaxing, or with friends.

The MA SL wood-burning firebox by Piazzetta to heat the large living area

A fireplace with MA SL wood-burning firebox by Piazzetta was installed in the lounge, perfectly blending in with the minimalist style of the entire project.

The intention was to insert a fireplace that could heat the large living area with the warmth of a wood-burning fire, which at the same time allowed a broad view of the flame.

The large size of the MA SL firebox by Piazzetta, with a width of 136 cm, makes it possible to admire and be captivated by the flames.

The large size of the MA SL firebox by Piazzetta, with a width of 136 cm, makes it possible to admire and be captivated by the flames.

To satisfy these requests, the MA SL compact firebox by Piazzetta was chosen, which combines clean lines, a large viewing glass and practicality of use.

The extremely linear construction of this firebox offers countless installation solutions, while the screen-printed glass frames the fire, making it the true protagonist of the home.

MA SL wood-burning fireboxes by Piazzetta combine the typical size of a traditional wood-burning firebox with a modern design and opening with vertical sliding door.

In addition to facilitating practical cleaning of the fireplace, the vertical sliding door, which can be blocked partially open, makes it possible to enjoy the crackling of the wood and experience all the magical atmosphere of the flame.

Wood-burning fires are certainly very romantic and create captivating atmospheres, and yet the calorific potential of this firebox is not to be overlooked. With its capacity to heat up to 415m3, the MA SL compact firebox by Piazzetta is able to envelop the entire space in a pleasant feeling of warmth and comfort.
